4/9/2017 - A young fisherman (with a young fish) and an old fisherman (with an old fish - 2010 year class - 29 inches) were both having fun today.
4/3/2014 - The rivers are too cold to be drawing in many fish and small bobber presentations (nymphs, small spawn bags, or wax worms) are in use.
3/25/2017 - Loopers were not the only thing getting bonked today at the French. A grey fox with distemper was dispatched as well. It was "snot" easy fishing as the rip current from a good Northeast wind dislodged a lot of didymo (rock snot algae) which coated the fishing lines in short order.
3/24/2017 - French fish, ducks, fishermen, trap, Lester ice and fishermen. The DNR may be netting soon. French River was 32 degrees.
3/22/2017 - The Fall and Winter Kamloops fishing has been as good as we have seen since 2013. Spring should be good as well.

5/20/2016 - Fish appear to be dropping out of the river but are still getting caught (above) in small numbers in the lake at the French.
Eye wear (above) and wading staff (below) for all occasions. Just call him "double-breasted old eight eyes".
5/12/2016 - There is still the occasional fresh Kamloops to be caught on the shore.

4/13/2016 - A MN DNR Fisheries crew member said they have met the 150 Kamloops spawning pairs quota at the hatchery but will continue to seine at the French for more Steelhead to spawn and for the Kamloops count.

Spring 2015 Slideshow
The DNR netted around another 100 rainbows again today (4/20/2015). The cold river temperatures kept almost all the fish in the lower lagoon pool rather than them moving up to the trap. Angler catches this Spring and entire season since the Fall have been poor but better numbers than last year have gone in the French River. The Kamloops did not stage at the French River in numbers until around the beginning of this Spring and were not biting well by the time they showed up so a larger percentage of the return has ended up getting into the river undiminished by the catch.
